Rickenbacker humbuckers on a 360-12?

Post by rob_u »

I haven't been able to find an exact answer by searching the forum, so I apologize if this has been covered before. Compared to my current High Gain pickups, what would the Ric Humbuckers sound like in my 360-12? I like the sound, of the High Gains, but I am looking to lose the hum they produce when passed through my MXR Super Comp compressor. The Super Comp is silent with my Strat Ultra Lace Sensors, so it's just pickup hum I'm dealing with. I don't want to lose the high-end jangle, or the piercing ring of the low end. How far away from the classic Byrds/Petty tone will the Ric humbuckers take me?
Also, has anyone used the GFS NYIII humbuckers on a RIC yet?

Thanks, Rob

Rob, the RCA-SPC 12-string had humbuckers, albeit on a 380 Laguna body; see Kevin's picture in this thread:

Hey Rob. Don't know about a 12-string, but we heard lots of 300-series 6-string Ricks with humbuckers at the 75th party and they rocked hard.

This is not a 12 string and it wasn't at the 75th Anniversary party, but I like it.

A sight for "thor" eyes Richard. I was waiting for you to chime in.

Anyone? Cool pics of what they look like but does anyone know what they sound like compared to the high gains? Will I lose that jangle? Will the midtones be too strong? Is the RIC Humbucker stacked, or tandem? Has anyone tried the GFS NYIII?

Thanks

Rob, the best way that I can describe the 360/6 pictured above is that it retains the jangle but with a tad more of a bluesy tone than the hi-gains. Furthermore, they are quite, much like the Lace Holy Grails that I have in my Strat.

I hope this helps a little.

Well, Maybe I'll look into a noise gate rahter than swap pickups. It's about the same price and less hassle.
