My Aug '73 4001 is still the only one that I've seen with checkered binding. I wish a former owner did not attach that thumbrest the way they did!

Man that is one sweet guitar Joey. My Dad sticks those things on every bass he owns. I don't like them and it seems kind of pointless on a 4001 with the cover on, but it doesn't detract from the beauty of that bass

Someone did that to one of my 5ers. I've taken off every thumb rest I've ever had.
