Now I can sell off all my other instruments and do it all with one Image I'll have to keep my basses though. LOL

I saw this demonstrated at NAMM. Most exciting thing in the Fender booth, IMO, although it's far from the first of its kind.

It did sound pretty amazing.

But...why don't I want one, I wonder?

Hey,that look's cool.Of course it won't replace my Rickenbackers or Les Paul, but my Mustang...?The coolest feature(for me)is that you can change tunings without retuning.

Tunings... Do they mean pitch?

Or can you play an open C tuning when you're still in standard? That's pretty interesting. Just make sure you can't still hear the strings themselves...

"But...why don't I want one, I wonder?"

Because it's more fun to actually play what's coming out of the speakers!

Really, an interesting tool for someone who needs the ultimate in versatility, but I'd rather see someone manipulate a normal guitar & come up with amazing sounds the old school way.

Just my 2.6 cents (Canadian).

I got to play one that a Fender rep was schlepping around to the Staten Island music stores. It was head and shoulders above any other modeling guitars i've played so far - Line 6 products, mostly. I liked that it wasn't too much stuff - just enough so that it did everything well.

My thoughts are that it would be great for someone in a wide-ranging cover band.

i may be wrong, but I don't think there are any other modeling guitars out there besides the Line 6 Variax, and Roland's VG technology, which of course this new Fender is based on.

I don't see anything here to make me give up my Variax - the acoustic sound in particular is underwhelming (based on the example on the Fender website). I do like the fact that you can apply the alternate tunings to each of the onboard models from the switch on the guitar itself - the Variax can't do that.

We'll see how it does - it's probably a much nicer guitar than the Variax 600 I own, but it's over twice the price.

I'll stick with my collection of Ricks, Strats, Tele's and Gibsons etc to get all the sounds I need. Besides, half the fun is being in charge of the sound you produce. The other half of the fun is having a lot of different instruments at hand. Image
