Well, Dave opened up the lid on my surprise and I
just couldn't help myself.
I've longed for (or lusted after) an Azureglo 4001 bass ever since opening up the Star Stowe centerfold in a 1977 issue of Playboy magazine. You can imagine the effect that image had on my twelve year old mind at the time
(For those unfamiliar with the issue, please email me off-line).
Even now, I must still live vicariously through Dave Pascoe, who has been instrumental in helping me secure this bass. At this stage I'm deferring to Dave on matters like playability, sound, finish etc as he's the one with it in his hands, so to speak
Dave is also at the front of the queue if I ever decide to part with it.
Apart from actually taking delivery of the bass myself, the next thing is to convince my wife to have her photo taken posing with the bass. Andrew Winter knows what I mean!
I'm glad that those Forumites attending MARF II will have the opportunity to see the bass in the flesh, er, so to speak.

That was the one where she was holding just such an axe, eh? I never saw it, although I was 22 at the time, but I heard about it years later.
I am really hoping I get to go to MARF II, but business may keep me away
Well done, sir! Great catch

Do unto others as you would have them do unto you, and sit in with the band whenever you can, to keep your chops up!
Jeff, Robyn knows full well what my intentions are! She keeps telling me I'm dreamin' though!

I don't believe the AZ bass in the 77 centerfold spread had full inlays and checkers so your photo repro is going to be slightly inaccurate...

Someone just sent me a scan of that photo. Not ever having seen it before...
It is a wonder that anyone even noticed a Rick there in the first place! There are significant distractions on that photo that would tend to guide the eye away from the Rick
Now I've gotta go delete the photo before my wife happens to stumble on it by accident - I would never be able to explain that I only read the magazine for the Rick photos and articles, not the other pictures!

That is SO bizarre, Dane, the same thing happened to me once! Back in 1963, when I was a kid, I found this rifle in a bag under a bush on this grassy knoll in Dallas Texas, with a photo of a 1962 Rickenbacker 4001 and a photo of some guy named Kennedy in it, and a bag of money with a note pinned to it saying "Thanks for taking on this assignment, Happy Hunting" signed by some guy named LBJ. I was so glad that the guy missed, since nobody reported anyone shooting a Rickenbacker that day!!!
