Tailpiece screws

Post by brycycle »

i'm replacing the hipshot on the '77 4001 i bought with a Ric tailpiece/bridge and require the 5 screws for the tailpiece.

i have found one of the screw types on the Ric site (part # 05201 the 2 visible screws), but can't find a part # for the 3 screws that sit under the bridge.

anyone know?

thanks

Isn't it exactly the same type screw, only slightly shorter?

On some basses from some years the screws under the bridge are flat heads instead of oval. I am using stainless steel screws as replacements these days. They buff up nicely and don't corrode. 1/2" oval heads work nicely in both places. The 7 screw models have 3/4" ovals in the two extra holes.

The screw should be a #6 X 1/2" or 5/8" long, oval head self-tapping Phillips. McMaster # 90315A423 at $5.34 per 100 box.

The flat heads are tough to find in this size. But McMaster comes through again with their part # 90065A148 at $2.61 per box of 100.

I don't see these in the RIC butique. I would be hesitant to use the 3/4" long ones--too much chance they might poke through the back of the bass. YIKES!

I'm sure a hardware store will have screws that will fit just fine ...

3/"4 would not be a problem for the two screws at the heel of the 7 screw tailpiece. I just measured one out of my 2002 4003 and it is actually 7/8" long. The body is roughly 1 1/4" then the tail piece holds adds another 3/8" or so. Don't use anything longer than 1/2" for the other screws though.
