Jeez! Peter, you can delete the one above.

And this was #3000.

Jeez! You can't add an image from the edit!

Oddly enough, the Southwest of the U.S. is pretty much Arizona and New Mexico ... also, there is a distinction among Northern Illinois, Southern Illinois, and Central Illinois, in spite of the state being only 384 miles from north to south.

Thanks, all!

Michigan is kinda unique in having two peninsulas, upper and lower. We then designate the bridge area as northern lower Michigan, then the Thumb Area, central Michigan, SW Michigan, and Eastern Michigan, otherwise known as Detroit.

We've had a joke here in MI for a long time that MI and OH had a war and Ohio lost - that's how they got Toledo. But since going there a lot with my daughter at UT, I believe MI lost and that's how we got Detroit...... DOH!

[appologies to all who are offended!]

Only So.Cal. newscasters call this "the southland". Then of course, there's the "inland empire"...yet another lame term applied to part of So.Cal. for marketing purposes no doubt.

There was a billboard of the the 405 freeway a couple of years ago for a Spanish speaking news station that referred to this as "Mexifornia". If I'd only had a Howitzer......

I hear a lot of "Inland Empire" up here in the high desert, mostly referring to the big growing area south and east of the Palm Springs area ...
