Change in the new 650D/650S's?

Post by mr_zer0 »

I was at the local dealer who just got in a new Ric 650D. However, this guitar had all gold hardware (instead of silver...so I would first think this was a 650S) and the neck was NOTHING like it used to be....gone was the log neck, replaced with a narrower Strat-like neck. However, the specs on the Ric page don't indicate that the model has changed (or that there is another model with such specs). Interesting.......

Joe,if it has Gold hardware, its definitely not a Dakota. Has to be a Sierra. Don't know what to say about the neck. RIC supposedly thinned the necks on the 660s back in late '02. Maybe they did the same to the 650s too.

BTW: Are you supplying the correct info or do you have some other "Alterio" motive?
Sorry, couldn't resist :-0 Budda-bing!

If RIC really thinned the necks on the 650 and 660, are they like that of a 620 now? Or are they still a bit wider than a 620's?

Fury, I'm pretty sure they are talking about front to back thickness, not width.

Boy, if they'd do THAT (slenderize the 650 necks), I'm interested; what with the option of selecting toasters, HG's, or the HB-1's, the price point, etc.

It makes me wonder about the long-term future of the 620 (other than the 12), though. And don't you wonder why there's no 650 12-string available, even if only one model, say the 650C. It seems the wider neck would be just right for it. Imagine, a mass-market Ric 12 with no carping...

Paul: The 650C/12 would be a nice instrument. I have wondered why folks don't get the 660/12 and just swap out the pickups for humbuckers or high gains if they want them.
Life, as with music, often requires one to let go of the melody and listen to the rhythm

I was told by RIC that you can order a 660 with the Accent vibrato but NOT with the humbucker pickups.
