Here's my '69 surround...

which is slightly softer on the corners. My Dec 68 however, is sharper, more like this one.

I think the corners on yours are a little more rounded than the other.

You are right Jim!

Here's another '69 TRC...

Of course, it could be original, as the bass does have history back to '74, but, who knows...

Andy,
That looks more like a mid-late 60's TRC should look.

Is that an original Horseshoe, or a re-issue, looks really nice.

Yeah, I agree Jim. If the '70 basses are still like the one in the link I posted, you tend to think it's a later model.

That's the original horseshoe, the only one I've seen in a '69 bass. It is a IB serial number. Note the surround on the wrong way. The holes line up correctly too!

I noticed that, a one of a kind from the factory that day, probably one of the last to sport a Horseshoe too.

I used to have a 69 FG and it was exactly like that color. So beautiful! I will be keeping an eye on this.

That 69 is interesting. I didn't there were any 69's w/ original h'shoes out there. That's really cool!

Carmen,

Thanks. Neither did I until I came across this at Christmas!

The previous owner had known of the bass since the late '70's and said it was always this way. The baseplate has the holes for the 'shoes too. Image

I've played this bass. The owner is a Forumite, the same guy I bought my CS from. It's a very nice bass, sounds great (similar to my 72) although the action was too high for me. I'm on my way out now, but I'll check the auction properly later.

The fingerboard isn't separated, or wasn't when I played it. However the body wings themselves are ever so slightly separating from the neck through portion, and the neck has been pulled forward quite a bit, as the seller describes, hence the (for me) too high action. Bear in mind I like very low action though. I'm sure someone like Dale or Paul could sort this out. I was actually offered it some months back but unfortunately couldn't afford it. And I still can't!

Seperation? High action?

I know it well...

Hence over 15 years in the case unstrung!
