What year is your bass? If it's a recent model, RIC have replacement guards (link). If it's mid-90's or earlier, a new Ric pickguard will not be the correct shape. Tony Dudzik at pickguardian.com can make you a good pickguard, Don Adamek also does great work. Just don't be tempted to buy WD, they are wrong material, wrong thickness, wrong edge bevel, just wrong.

When did they change the pickguard? I have a 98 4003 that need a new guard badly. Do anybody know if a new rickguard will fit?

A new guard from RIC should fit a '98 4003. I think the cutoff point was in late 1997 or so. That's when they changed the shape a little bit, the corners are more round, the knobs are parallel, and there's a slight "hump" below the switch.

EDIT: It seems to me now that the cutoff point was sometime in 1998. Some '98 4003's have the old guard, others have the newer shape. So it's possible that a recent RIC guard may not fit your bass.

The white guard in the pic is the older shape, over a black one that is the recent shape.

Thanks for the replays. I will check with the template I found on the pickguardian page if mine have the hump or not. Mine was built in august 98.
