Say what you will about Phil Spector, and all the hoopla a while back about DeSpectorizing "Let It Be Naked" .... as this is a guitar/bass forum, I have to give credit where credit is due. Phil Spector brought George Harrison back into the studio, after the Get Back project was shelved, to overdub all the lead guitar parts on Spector's version of the tune Let It Be as released on the original LIB album. And I think that George Harrison's distinctive, blazing guitar solo on LIB, stands out as one of George's finest guitar moments, IMHO.

So I guess Spector deserves a little credit.... even though he may be a murderer in his spare time. - Rich F.

Though of course this action, in every sense, flew directly in the face or the original intention of the project, which was not to overdub. And the project was still promoted as being the Beatles "live."

And that's not mention that in his last years George publicly stated that he was not at all keen on the production of All Things Must Pass.

But who knows, had he lived longer he might have said the same things about Cloud 9 30 years down the road. And Phil didn't produce that.

Regarding All Things Must Pass, I think George was quite happy with the production at the time. It was in hindsight that he found it dated and wished it wasn't so oversaturated with reverb. Drives me nuts, too. On his liner notes for the re-release he wrote about his temptation to re-mix it, but he concluded it would be wrong to try to rewrite what is now a piece of history.

I remember reading that Brian Wilson wanted "Don't Worry Baby" for Ronnie and the Ronettes. I'm glad Spector refused it, and the Beach Boys did it instead (great full sound).

How many of Spector's songs do we still hear today?

Beach Boys did a great job with "Don't Worry Baby" but I can also see the Ronettes doing a great job with it too. Its very Motown-ish.

I suspect that we all hear more Spector influenced stuff these days than we realize. He had a hand in so much of the early material one way or another.

Its a little known fact that not only did Ringo play guitar on 'Happiness is a Warm Gun', but the "Lennon" song was actually written by Phil Spector. And, if you listen very carefully, you can hear Charlton Heston playing bongos in the background.
