do the covers for the HB1 fit the neck p/up of the standard 4003?

you have to change or modify the base plate to accept a sheet metal screw instead of a wood screw ... or use a long wood screw ...
A hb1 can also be installed as a treble pickup in a 4000/4001/4003 bass ... but you should also put in a 500k ohm volume and tone pot for the hb1 for best results ...
oops ... you are talking about just the covers ... I thought you meant installing a hb1 as a neck pickup ... the cover for the high gain and the hb1 are the same exact part ...

Keep in mind that depending on the year of the high gain it may have a shorter cover. At one time the covers were shorter and the bottom plates were flat. When the covers got taller they put four dimples on the bottom aluminum plate to push the bobbin up into the chrome cover of the high gain. If you put a tall cover with a flat bottom plate the bobbin will not be tight. I had an example of one but it is now with Greg Simon.
