Greater mass in the headstock- notwithstanding the claims from a certain add-on device maker- does NOT improve the tone or strength. The larger mass at the end of essentially a lever robs energy from the strings that otherwise would be released into the bridge.
The strength of the head itself might be ever so slightly greater but not in any useful way; the extra weight, on the other hand, provides additional stress at the throat of the neck.
This was part of the same logic that Ben and JH gave on the cut-through 360/12 headstock: less weight = better sound.
I don't know if that is true. Just repeating.

The bigger ones were better for smacking people upside the head due to the larger impact/area ratio..The smaller ones require a higher velocity to achieve the desired result.
When asked why he chose to play a Telecaster, Buchannan said it was because he used to play in some pretty rowdy places and that was the strongest guitar he could find in case he needed to use it as a weapon.

Ok, we got the thinner headstocks! Yay! Going out on a limb here....who would like 21 fret necks vs. 24 fret necks? And why? Aesthetics? Are those 3 extra frets and wood a waste?
Personally, I've always liked the look of the 21 fret guitars. I can't say that I ever use those extra 3 frets. I wouldn't miss them if they disappeared. And goodbye to the raised lettered TRCs. I like the vintage styled ones better. Sorry, had to get this offa my chest.
