Gorgeous '73 FG w/CB - not sure about surround

Post by ilan »

A local store has this beautiful Fireglo transition '73 (ME serial #, checkerboard, later style "poured" inlays). Price tag: $2,500 (reasonable for where I live).

It's in great condition, has medium gauge old roundwounds but the neck is straight as a laser beam. I took this pic with my cell phone camera. I'm not sure about the pickup surround, though. It has sharp corners. What do you make of it?

It really is. I've read that fireglo is the hardest color to photograph, but this is what the bass looks like in person.

I'd say that the surround is most likely original. I've seen surrounds just like it on '72 and earlier basses. The mute, however does not look original. But then again...Does anybody care about the mute?

Cool Rick!

That looks like a late 60's surround with the sharpies...

My 68 has one very similar...

I think they look "sharp" myself...

Buy it!

I may have to buy it... I'm restoring a '73 Fender J that I may sacrifice to get this Ric. It really "spoke to me".

Get the Rick, it is very similar to my July '73 except for that surround.
