All In the Family
Assuming that musical talents are part inherited, part learned and part politics, I would like to explore the success of the children of famous 1960s artists.
To that end, what offspring of famous 1960s artists in the UK and the US would themselves claim a position on the charts that rivaled that of their parents? Was their success preferential treatment, talent or perhaps both. I would be interested in your analysis of this subject.

Life, as with music, often requires one to let go of the melody and listen to the rhythm

Can't think of many off top of my head, but at moment here in UK possibly even US, not up on today's scene as they say, one act that is apparently huge is Muse, the lead singer Matt Bellamy is the sone of one George Bellamy, name may not immediately strike a chord but I am sure all of you in US and Canada recall Telstar by The Tornados, George was an original member.
TODAY'S THE FIRST DAY OF THE REST OF YOUR LIFE
I have always found it interesting that so few big stars had children that would also have consistent chart success. While the children of The Beatles have had their time on the music scene, for example, none of them have soared up the charts.
A great illustration that predictable success in the music business is more complicated and dynamic than our understanding of heredity and environment would have us believe.

Zac Starkey may not have surpassed his father when it comes to success. But I noticed just recently how powerful a drummer he is! I hope Ringo is proud!
Searchers amongst my teenage favourite music. Still fond of them, but earnestly a little puzzled they are considered THIS big! But I'm very excited about this forum, and will love to read it regularly, and also contribute!

I am always surprised when the children of greats are even GOOD. I would think the odds would be against it, frankly. But Rufus Wainwright is indeed an exceptional and original artist---if fact, his sister is pretty good too. Of course, both of their parents were successful recording artists, so maybe they had a leg up. I was surprised at how good Julian Lennon was...say, what ever happened to...
Jason Bonham is also a good drummer.
