How many of these were bought to resell or forced to sell because of the good prices they bring? I'm not planning on selling mine, but the prices right now make it tempting. "Don't give into temptation."

Bloody hell, does anyone actually *play* a DCM?? No offense intended, but I hope RIC moves away from the "limited edition" mindset of the 90's-- it seems to be a minor disease of the guitar industry currently.

Hey Jo, I usually play DCG. Those M's are way up the neck!

I hear you, I own one and I'm still frightened to play out with it. I've used it at practice and at a mid day car show, but I'm reluctant to leave it on a stage at the local stink hole. With time I'm sure I'll become more comfortable, but for now it's for special occasions only. As is my hat with the dreadlocks attached to it.

The LTD thing does not bother me. I figure if some of us pony up for the latest shiny new LTD, it will encourage the manufacturers to take chances and offer some "off the wall stuff". It also helps create a healthy, industry which at the end of the day is good for all of us.

I also figure if most are not played, then when I wear this one out, there will be some nice new ones in the air.

There's another mindset that only sees one aspect of an issue that has more than one.

How about this side of the coin:

RIC issued these instruments (and not just basses) in order to commemorate their 75th Anniversary in business--a considerable and notable success, with steady improvements in quality, and a history of innovation throughout that period of time.

I couldn't think of a better way to celebrate such a wonderful occasion than to allow their own customers to partake of the largesse at a reasonable price.

I certainly don't begrudge a company for celebrating an anniversary (i'm not quite that petty LOL) but I thought a line in the DCM ebay auction struck me a somewhat bizzarre: "The only playtime on this bass was to ensure that all electronics are working properly". I think a Rick bass deserves to have the Roundabout lick played on it at least once, LOL. Sure, antique instruments probably ought to be taken out of workhorse circulation to protect them, but a brand new one that likely will never be played at all? It sort of reminds me of Nigel Tufnel's precious vintage Fender complete with original tags: "don't touch it, don't even look at it!" I guess I view instruments as tools, rather than investment opportunities or wall art, but hey, to each his/her own... just my humble opinion.
