Looking for a 12 string neck

Post by chrisb »

Anyone know of a good source for a bolt-on 12 string neck? I'd like to replace the neck on a 6 string to make it a 12...

There is a Hagstrom twelve neck listed on eBay. Looks like it needs a refin, but it might be a possibility. It's been many moons since I played a Hag 12, but as I remember, their necks are fairly wide, but also fairly thin from front to back and pretty fast. They used a truss rod that is sort of an H-shaped extrusion in most of their necks and it has a pretty good reputation for staying straight.

Warmoth also has several 12-string necks from $157 up in their showcase section.

Another possibility is to look for '70s Eko/Eros acoustics. Most of them had bolt-on necks - pretty ordinary acoustic guitars, but generally quite playable. There were Japanese-made Epiphones of that era which could also be suitable donors.

I've found a number of Epiphone 12 necks at good prices (<$20) on Ebay. They make great cricket bats...

Close.

Cricket bats (chiroptera chirpus chirpus) are found in the Central American highlands, from Tijuana to Tegucigalpa, and feed upon insects when they do their foraging late at night. They get their name from the sonar signals they send out (their eyesight is poor) when flying, which sound like crickets playing baseball on a warm summer evening.

Warmoth sells necks that fit Fender Neck pockets with 12 string headstocks.

There's one salient piece of information missing here - Chris, what kind of 6-string are you trying to turn into a 12?

It's a Turser electric resonator-- a cheap and cool guitar that would lend itself well if I can find a neck that's 2 1/8" at the base.

Of course I have to remove all the crickets first... they get into the tiniest places!

bet it can't jump none either!

Kinda like the exchange just before the "cuttin heads" duel in Crossroads (NOT the Brittney movie)!
