Songwriting tragedy, more like. And wouldn't it just have to be a hit? Sorry, but that one really bites, it's like a dentist's drill, especially the vocal. But I really like "Rainy Day Feeling."

No Jerry, Jimmy Webb wrote the latter, Jacks partly rewrote Seasons In The Sun as original version was written By Jacques Brel and was called Le Moribond (The Dying Man) and had been re-written into English by Rod McKeun.
Apparently The Beach Boys recorded it on Jacks suggestion but never released it.
The Fortunes released it as a single in 68 but it did nothing.
Jacks's only other hit in UK was again a Jacques Brel song If You Go Away,Seasons though was his only US top 40 entry albeit a number 1.

Roy: Did Bob Spalding, the fifth Venture, fill in for one of the Fortunes at one point?
Life, as with music, often requires one to let go of the melody and listen to the rhythm

Not to my knowledge but you and George are in right area, in fact I'll tell you both as it is hard I think.
Dave Carr was a member of The Fortunes until 68 played keyboards,he eventually was credited as keyboards on lots of Ventures albums though never credited as a member of the band.

Thanks Roy. Do you know how the contact with The Ventures was made?
