Across the Universe
Yup, saw that trailer when I went to see Spider-Man 3. ****** me off big time. I even had to shout at the screen ("Stop ruining the classics!") to make myself feel better. Really the only thing that bothers me is the soundtrack is all covers.. can they not afford the real songs?

No they can't!
I'm at a crossroads about this movie. Yes it's kinda cheesy and a strange idea. on the other hand, it's bringing Beatles songs to a generation of people who haven't listened/ haven't appreciated the Beatles like we have.
HOPEFULLY, A few fergie, Black Eyed Peas, Hip-hop whatever fans will go see this movie, appreciate strong songwritting ability and look into old fashioned great music.
If we convert 5, it'll be worth it.

While it's not exactly how I would like to see the Beatles work presented, it might, as Nick said, inspire the younger generation to appreciate Lennon/McCartney compositions. However, many may never know who originally did the tunes.

It looks cool, and I liked some of those renditions too.
If someone within the film's intended target audience (agewise) goes to see the film and doesn't know who wrote or sang the songs, chances are they never will, nor will they ever care, either.

I heard that version of Girl and said "NOOOO!!!" and they kept spitting out bad Beatles covers. Imho you can't cover the Beatles. It just can't be done right. So people should stop trying. And naming the characters around the songs?! Pfft, please.
