Acts That Should Have Been More Successful
Love Affair Jerry were basically the vocals of Steve Ellis, they had 5 hits in UK between January 68 and July 69
In chronological order
Everlasting Love - number 1
Rainbow Valley - number 5
A Day Without Love - number 6
One Road - number 16
Bringing On Back he Good Times - number 9
They made a decent album as well or probably to be more accurate the session men and Steve Ellis did.

Good clip Sheena, enjoyed it, but that was Steve Ellis with 4 other guys miming to the hit.
This was not the line up that "made" the hits.
In fact this was another of those "It's my Group" scenario's whereby Ellis did not own the name Love Affair another ex member did and a court case ensued and Ellis had to go out as Steve Ellis's Love Affair.
In the states this was a Top 20 hit for Robert Knight in October 67
Rachel Sweet had a minor hit with it in 81.
Now where have I heard that before!.

Jerry: AMG states that Edison Lighthouse ("Love grows...") singer was named Tony Burrows; what he looked like (like this? or probably like this?) is another question. Still i think it's not the same voice as on "Everlasting love".
Roy: sorry, but most of the other clips of this song on youtube are for the version performed by Sandra.
No live version as performed by the Love Affair, unfortunately...

Tony burrows sang on a number of hits in 60's/70's
"There was "Love Grows (Where My Rosemary Goes)" with the Edison Lighthouse, "My Baby Loves Lovin'" with White Plains, "Beach Baby" with First Class, "United We Stand" with the Brotherhood of Man, "Let's Go To San Francisco" by the Flowerpot Men and "Gimme Dat Ding" with the Pipkins. Burrows played in the group the Kestrels, who toured with the Beatles twice. He also was part of the Ivy League, one of the biggest bands in England in the mid-sixties. Tony also sang on the famous Coca-Cola "I'd Like To Teach The World To Sing" commercial, as well as doing backing vocals on tunes like Elton John's "Border Song," "Levon" and "Tiny Dancer."

An interesting fact about the Move's single 'flowers in the rain' from 67:-
The song generated controversy when the band were sued by the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Harold Wilson, for libel after Secunda produced a cartoon postcard to promote the single of Wilson in bed with his secretary, Marcia Williams, with whom he was allegedly having an affair. The group lost the court case and had to pay all costs, with all royalties earned by the song being given to charities of Wilson's choice, a ruling which remained in force even after Wilson's death in 1995.

Can't be many Bands that can claim to have been successfully sued by a prime minister!!! The subsequent publicity probably did them no harm.

I recently bought a dvd covering the "Steve Marriott Astoria Memorial Concert" (April 2001). Steve Ellis is guesting as lead singer on several songs. And does it good! He looks exactly as he did in the Love Affair heydays. On some numbers, he shares the stage with authorities like Paul Weller and Noel Gallagher. In my opinion, Ellis steals the show! Even better are some numbers he performs with a group named as The Mods, from London, featuring a very good singer too. A more contemporary group, I think. I would have liked to know a little more about t h i s The Mods, but haven't found anything yet.
Love Affair was never one of my favourite acts, btw.

Searchers amongst my teenage favourite music. Still fond of them, but earnestly a little puzzled they are considered THIS big! But I'm very excited about this forum, and will love to read it regularly, and also contribute!
Thanks Einar. Time to explore, Love Affair, the group that is.
Life, as with music, often requires one to let go of the melody and listen to the rhythm
