DeArmond Questions

Question #1, on the bottom pickup in the photos. This is the DeArmond used on some of the late '50s Rickenbacker guitars.
- What is this pickup called?
- Was it used on other makes of guitars? If so which?

Question #2, on the top pickup in the photos.
- What pickup is this? Anyone have any info on what this might be? I'm tempted to call it a Bagel toaster...

These ones (top pickup) bring big dollars on ebay, but thats about all I know about them. Most of the DeArmond pickups sound really good too.

John, not sure of the correct name of the bottom pickup but Ive always heard it called a Chrome Bar or Pre-Toaster.

Do you have any links or item #'s I could look at? I've searched on everything I could think of and didn't see another one?

I've seen the upper one on some of the Harmony solidbody (pre-1960) Stratotones, but normally they have the Hershey bar. You may want to ask over at the Harmony guitars forum, http://216.219.212.85/cgi-bin/forums/ikonboard.cgi

No polepieces/bobbin on either of those, I believe, just a single bar magnet surrounded by a tress-like coil.

I sold one of the top ones a while back for about $50 on eBay. There were a few at that time all around that price.

They are used in the acoustic guitars from that period.
