Make up bass

Instead of a DCM from CME, and withlout rehashing the story I got this January 1973 4001 from them. I have a bunch of pics, but can't resize them for some reason.

Anyway...here's a start...

Actually, you're seeing the worst of the bass. It has changed tuners, and looks like it was routed for a badass at some point. Oddly enough it's an excellent player with very low action.

My plan is to use it for a project bass. I will either make it an LS if that's possible, or go with secret project #1

weird how you always hear about Ricks being routed to accommodate Badasses. I have a Badass I on mine and there's no routing at all.

Jim, did you need to cover the gap with anything? What did you use? And was it hard to do?

Over and over again, the basses from this era get new tuners and a badass sometime in the early 80's or so...and then 21st century Rick Resource people come along and undo the changes... I see the checkerboard, does it also have full width MOP?

Yeah, it has FWCMOP. That was the main reason I took it.

I have a December 72 Burgundyglo, and other basses just do not even closely resemble the playability (to my preference, I suppose) of this era, including many of the newer Rick basses I have tried. Whatever you do with it, I'm sure you will do it well. And it will continue to be a player. Best of luck!

Mark (Geddeeee), yea I had the gap filled with an exact fitting removable maple block. As for the difficulty, I know my luthier spent a good deal of time on it, but I think the actual work was fairly simple. He has assured me that, although the work was rather extensive, the bass is fully capable of going back to the original bridge (although I'd NEVER want to deal with that mess again!)
