That twin-neck has been there for at least 3 years to my knowledge. They probably couldn't find anyone that could handle it.
Birch basses are awesome, never could understand his rear scratchplate idea as they build up static very quickly & have to be earthed.
BUT - for tone - NOTHING - as in NOTHING beats them!!!

An acquaintance of mine has a Birchenbacker/Rickenbircher that he lent me a while back. Short scale, weighed a ton, couldn't work out what the knobs did despite instructions telling me! I borrowed it with the intention of buying it as a spare (I only had one Ric at the time) but I didn't get on with it at all. And no, it didn't sound anything like a Ric.
