Angel over my shoulder

Post by beefandbones »

I went to Guitar Center last night to pick up a cardboard box so I can ship a guitar body to a friend. While I was there I thought, 'hmmm why not try out some of these guitars?' I've had Strats on my mind recently and wanted to check out a few. It's been yeeeaars since I had a Strat. So I picked up a few and tried 'em out, tried out a couple of Gibson SGs, some Teles. The usual. Some nice instruments.

Of course the only thing I can afford right now was that free cardboard box, but in my mind I thought 'if I could take one home with me today, what would it be...' you know, like you do. And then I looked over my head to see...

A 660/6 in Midnight Blue! What a BEAUTY! I'd never seen a 660 in person before, and... Wow. Forget the Strats - the 660 got my blood pumping!

And THAT's what I'd take home with me! And it would be money well spent.

Thanks again to everyone who makes these wonderful instruments!

What did it smell like Ethan? Did you get a chance to smell it? My Rickenbackers smell like nothing on earth...mmmmmmmm

Sorry.

I hadn't seen a 660 in person either until MARF last month. They are gorgeous instruments indeed. The 75th anniversary 660 that somebody brought (not sure who) was a real beauty.

There really is nothing on earth like a 660- that's even before getting close enough to experience Ric-O-smell. I wished I had seen some when I was buying other guitars- I might have saved myself some time, money and effort. And I woulda been cool sooner in life! ;-)

Unfortunately I didn't get close enough to experience the rick-o-smell - they had the guitar hanging from the ceiling! I couldn't see the price either because the tag was facing inward. But wow... what an exciting instrument!

I'm more of a vocalist than a true guitarist, but those 660 and 650 necks like me better than any other necks. I still really like my old SD Curlee too, but I haven't even picked it up in a year (I should probably work out some if I'm gonna try it again.)
