Inside the sleeve of the Farewell To Kings LP was the first time I saw the photo of the Ric with a Badass bridge. It was just like the photo above. I guess later he went with the black surround for the bridge.
Jeff, I based my guess on the fact that I had heard the 74/75 before, never heard of him owning any 73's, that's all.

He bought that bass before "Fly By Night". It was the 30th of July, 1974. Neil had just joined, the band had got an advance from the record company and they needed new equipment for the tour.
Also, the black surrounding with the badass is on his other JG4001, the one which has 1" spacing.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I kinda recall the inside sleeve of "Caress of Steel" having a picture of Geddy playing a checkered binding 4001 with full-width inlays.
