What bridge do I have? Tune o matic or ABR-1?

Exceptional restoration is in the details

Post by loverickbass »

How can I tell which Gibson bridge I have? I want to upgrade to the tonepros bridge and tailpiece but I'm not sure which version I need to get. The Gibson website says it's a Tune o matic but I want to make sure that info is right. BTW, it's for one of the new guitar of the week SG3 single coil guitars.

It's Gibson Nashville bridge. The ABR-1 has a retainer wire and hasen't been used in many years.

What does that SG sound like? I've always wanted to know!

Btw, Tune-o-matic is just the style of bridge. the ABR-1 and the Nashville are both Tune-o-matic bridges, as is the Tonepros.

Thanks for that info Nick. This is my first Gibson product so I'm in unknown territory.

It's a nice guitar but the pickups sure do suck! Very weak. Vintage voiced all the way. They sound like 50s strat pickups.

I went and bought some Lace Califonia pickups for it. Only one problem; the stock single coils aren't standard size. Way smaller than standard. So...I've got Tony at pickguardian making me a new guard.

Other than that, nice craftsmanship, pretty wood(2 piece body),inlays are above average. Not quite RIC standard, but up there.
