Sheesh, Is there anything that someone won't complain about? A perfectly good site, and it is still not good enough. God forbid a thread gets cluttered with things a few folks don't like. Well, some of us don't like the collecting either, but this is the first time you've ever heard me mention it. OF course, some of you would chase us non collectors off to keep it "pure"...

There is enough here for everybody. And, believe it or not, there are a few of us that like to "visit" on these threads, which obviously gets under the skin of some of the self-annointed topic police.

LIGHTEN UP!

Heck, start your own site, and then you can have it JUST the way you like it. Don't be surprised if the traffic is slow.

Not all of us are collectors. I am not, for one. My wife thinks otherwise btw Image

IMO there's room on this forum for all sorts of musical interests. Some elements of the craft would remain virtually unexplored, if it were not for people posting things or subjects that interest them.

If a subject does not interest me.....I move on to another. I don't have a lot of time to post these days (I would not be all that surprised if that makes some people happy) so time usage has become absolutely critical for me. I still attempt to read as many posts as I can.

Rock on, Roy, Charly and others who have been sharing their interests with us.

Agreed, Brian. And I would also encourage less discouragement. In other words, this is a public forum, and it is really nice to see all the engagement. Everyone has an opinion, and I like it that people put their opinions out there. It gets difficult when we disagree...some get angry and vengeful, others get hurt and check out entirely, some decide we shouldn't even talk about things that get heated and plead with us to just stop it...

I love it. What appears harsh on this forum is civility incarnate compared to many other forums. One thing that we all share is an admiration for Rickenbackers that is strong enough to sustain our interest in posting here, and this binds us all. That means a lot to me, and I'd buy any one of you a beer if you happened to show up at my place and say you were a member.

I just wouldn't buy beer for all of you at once.

Yes, I think of this forum as a place for civil discussion. To take all these comments & discussions as personal is short-siding yourself.

In response to those persons who wished to discuss music topics other than Rickenbacker, The Others was created. It was loosely defined, on purpose, to be
"This topic is for all those music-related posts that do not have direct relevance to Rickenbackers."
To my way of thinking, there are many resources that can be used to discuss music and include additional links to audio, video, and still photos. I see all of them as relevant here. What is of interest to one is boredom to another but that is what makes our discussion here valuable.

It is also obvious that "The Others" is used for topics other than music. To my way of thinking, provided that we stay away from sex, politics and religion, the discussion of other topics is also an important pursuit. It would seem that many agree with this point as this section continues to be visited often by those who frequent the RickResouce Forum.

Most titles give the reader insight into the topic discussed and as such those threads can be avoided should they not strike one as interesting.

Even this discussion about what to include or not, while boring to some, is intriguing to me and has merit. I appreciate all of those who took the time to respond and I continue to reflect on the points make here.

This Forum is far from perfect, but the plan is that it will continue to be guided by the collective wisdom of those who visit.

I've found at least three very interesting artists that would most likely never have come to my attention from these links, so we should definitely have a place for them somewhere.

My thanks to those who do post these links, they are indeed a great service to many of us.

"btw, if some people do not comment, that doesn't necessarily mean they do not download"

Sheena appreciate your comment, as always, but my comment is based on knowing how many times files have been downloaded, though clearly I do not who.

Freedom of choice though, because if one uploads something there is no commitment to download, if no one was downloading though clearly not in my interest to make available if no demand, pure economics.

I see now. I just didn't know there was a download checker... (and btw, as far as i am concerned, i try to download every posted track from the 60s for my "collection", but sometimes don't have a possibility to listen to them immediately and comment).
Speaking of economics - wonder what would be an "economically justified" (so to speak) number of downloads, in your opinion? Just out of curiosity.

Sheena

Good question, at moment I take the view that if one person gets enjoyment from them that's fine but if only one person was accessing the uploads, then I may as well just send to that person.

depending on size of file it can take a while to upload some stuff, if there is genuinely no interest and that is not having a fit of pique, then really no point in taking the time

I have learned more "ins and outs" with regard to British music of the 1960s since I met Roy, than I did in all of my previous years. Never mind how many!

I am grateful for your efforts Roy. As they say, long may they continue.
