I bought a brass/chrome one yesterday. It's going on my '76 4001.

They do work well. The saddles tend to wobble a lot if playing aggressively, but after a while you can get them to 'seat' a little better & they stay put.
The D & G saddles on mine wobbled like crazy at first, but are fine now.

Hey Kevin, I don't know that I'd characterize installing a HipShot as going to the "dark side." It will brighten the sound of your Rick greatly! At least the brass version had that effect on mine.

Congrats!

Don't count on being able to sell it on ebay...it'd be on the safe side to assume that any auction of the Hipshot would be pulled (unless someone can correct me).

I just put one on my 4003, and man, what a difference. These should be original equipment on these basses!
Finally able to easily intonate and set each string height, very cool.
