It Was Forty Years Ago Today...

I finally got around to playing the entire LP tonight, just finished. Still an incredible piece of work - many thanks to George Martin and Geoff Emerick as well.
Towards the end, I wanted to see if the "Dog tone" would frazzle my sleeping Schnauzer. Well, it got a mild reaction - but not before the animals in "Good Morning..." had already awakened him. Especially the chirping birds & cat section, apparently his favorites - according to the astonished look on his face and the left ear standing at attention!
John had beat Paul to the "something for the doggies" idea after all...

I had THE best time at work! a dreaded shift, 6-10, but from 7-9, they played a bunch of interviews followed by The entire album START TO FINISH! WHAT A NIGHT!

On Friday night a friend and I listened to, in chronological order, Pet Sounds (new stereo LP), Revolver (UK mono LP), Face to Face (mono LP), Happy Jack (US mono LP), Between the Buttons (US mono LP) and finally Sgt. Pepper (UK mono LP) and Sgt. Pepper (UK stereo LP).

What a night! Listening to Pepper in the context of its time really illustrated to me how revolutionary it was. It's easy to take Pepper for granted these days.

But I have to say, the mono mix of Revolver was the real standout for me. The bass on Taxman is UNBELIEVABLE!

Is David Livingston a living person in the photo? Above Ringo, next to Marilyn. He looks to me to be a real person.

From day one I thought the Livingstone figure wasn't a figure, but a living person they'd stuck in there as a joke, not telling anyone (not knowing his name til now).

Now I'm told he's dead! I didn't know he was sick!
