Um, with who, Jim? Look at the prices on any other premium American-made bass, think about the sound, and then consider your question again.

Those are just the practical considerations. Style and tradition are another matter entirely.

A good example would be Pedulla, IMHO. They use the same maple as RIC, have high standards, etc. Check out the price difference.

I suspect that a reason for the price difference between Pedulla and Ric may be the size of the operation, but I could be wrong.

Have to say of all the basses I've owned and sold, my Pedulla MVP would be the first I'd have back. I loved that bass. In terms of quality and sound I'd swap my CS for that anyday (although in practical terms I wouldn't because, at least here in the UK, the CS is worth about 3 times as much; also it looks gorgeous, IMHO!).

I don't like the new pedulas I have played and yeah man they cost like 3500 at guitar center. I like Ricks sooo much better. The prices are way up I just recently started looking again and said yeah way too rich for my blood. And to think I was kind of bummed when I tried to talk the guitar store down to 800 and got my 80s Rick for 900. I don't see many of the 80s basses with the black hardware pop up so yeah I would consider mine priceless. At least to me .

Ditto with Spector.

I had a Pedulla MVP for a short while in the early 90s. Beautiful black finish with chrome hardware. GREAT neck. But the tone.... my Guild Pilot had way more balls. I just don't care much for Bartolinis. I sold it and bought my 4001CS. No regrets!

I have an old left-handed Buzz Bass from 1987, bought it NOS in '94---ordered by someone but never picked it up. The bass has factory EMG's in it, which according to Mike Pedulla at the time they only did that for about 6 months. It has a very warm sound, very smooth. Super neck.

I can't believe how they've gone up in price, I got a real good deal on mine 'cause it was old stock, but they're over double now of what I paid...whew. Glad I have one.

Jeffrey, they don't show up on the RIC dealers list, so they are probably a reseller and there would be no warranty. I'd check first.

I can wait a little longer for substantially less than $2005. I could have a brand new Jetglo 4001C64 for 2099, if I cared to wait 18 months *aargh*.

I originally sold my 06 so I could put a deposite on the C64 order. I figured I would just use my Jazz Bass until it came in. Dumb move on my part. I missed my 4003 so much I couldn't wait. The deposite went on an 07 4003 and now I wait. I guess the good news is if that guy got his, I'll be getting mine soon.

Tom, I've never got on with Barts either, except in that bass. But balls isn't something that bothers me. For me, it's about a certain quality of tone. Everything else comes from my amp. I think too much balls is probably why I like my CS less than my other Ricks. Its got quite a bit more oomph than my 72 4001 (or my 4000), but in terms of the tone I'm after, it's not even in the ballpark.
