Looping cord through strap on a 12 string ?

Post by arrow201 »

For gigging it's said best to loop the cord through your
strap so if you step on it or it's pulled, etc, it wont
come out of the jack....

I'm very weary of doing this and haven't so far on my 360/12,
'R' tailpiece ...pyramid strings ...lots of high tension here
...i have visions of my 'R' tailpiece being ripped off with
any extra stress ...i've gotten away with this so far until
last nights gig when i stepped on the cord...oh oh !!
...had to play in acoustic mode for the rest of the song...doh! :P

Am i overly concerned ? anyone looping the cord with no probs
when stepped on with your 12 string ? ...other alternatives besides
staple gunning the cord to my leg ? , or making a noose around my
neck as a strain relief, etc ? Image ...thanks

I would be more worried about having the pyramids on the guitar than anything else.
No, I don't play the sax.

Why would looping the cord be a problem?

Loop the chord once around your belt instead of around the strap.

Rickenbacker strap buttons are generally held on by very sturdy machine screws - unlike the ****** little screws that you'll find in a pack of straplocks. I wouldn't worry about pulling one out and agree that the Pyramids are probably much more dangerous to the health and well-being of the guitar than sticking the cord through the strap.

will go bankrupt. the Company that SUCCESSFULLY markets a wireless guitar will have the one advantage over the failed model. they'll have a bass with a button on it that makes the guitar beep so you can find it under your laundry and such!

Wireless is okay but I hate small batteries (they get lost, roll under amps...) and forgetting to recharge them and the spares ... more bits to remember and carry, yuck!

But, on second thoughts, cords sometimes break at the jack so you have to carry spares. They corrode, get tangled all over the legs and guitar stands when the stands are holding other guitars...

What a dilemma, why did you guys have to bring this up? I won't be able to sleep for weeks now.
