Ah, a Penguin! I like this as I like White Falcons. They have been noted by some as "Birthday Cakes." I don't know what they come with but I liked Pyramids on my Tennesean.

Flats. Never tried the roundwounds. They might be good. Anyone else here tried the roundwounds?

For a Gretsch, i'd go with Chromes 11's. maybe even 12's.

I prefer easy-to-find and much cheaper D'Addario Chrome Flats in the .011 size. I use them on a couple of my Gretsches and they sound better than Pyramids, IMO. Seem to be lower in tension, too, but I must admit that I haven't run the numbers on these.

"Seem to be" Nick, "seem to be". Could just be my imagination; as I said, I have not run any numbers.

As part of its (hopefully) mid-life tune-up, I restrung my '67 625 with a set of new Pyramid .011s. I wanted to capture that "vintage feel" in my own odd way...and--yeouccchhh. My fingers were cursing after an hour or so.

My Fender Jaguar, however, with a scale length only slightly less than a Rickenbacker, has had .011 D'A flatty chromes on it since Day One, and my fingers never complain, and the Jag's action is set a bit higher than my Ricks.

I've been using Thomastik Infeld 11s on my 'Gent, but the D'addario Chromes are very nice as well.

Another vote her for D'Addario Chrome .11s on all my Gretschs. I'll use rounds on my Fenders and Epis, but Gretschs cry out for flats IMHO.
