Cool Chris Squire video

Found a video of Yes back in 1975 in which Chris Squire is playing one of only two wavy headstock 8 string 4001 basses. I recognized it cause John Entwistle owned the only other one and put a nice pic of it in his book, Bass Culture. It's unusual in that your pick would hit the lower string first on a downstroke.

Oh, but it is my freind!

Chris used to play that bass exclusively on "Roundabout" in the mid-late '70's.

And Jim is correct, Entwistle had the other.

I saw them many times during that period. That is what inspired me to purchase my first Rick, a white/black trim.

A good freind of mine has great pictures of Squire playing that bass at the University of Dayton around '78-'79.

I run into him occasionally,, and have been trying to get the pics from him so I can share them with the forum,,, but he keeps putting me off.

This inspires me to try harder....

I think that's the bass in the CD cover art for the Drama disk.

I used to travel all over Ohio to see them back then...

What, a 3001? I watched the And You and I vid from that page and he was using the usual 4001/RM1999. A vid of Tempus Fugit he was using I believe the Mouradian (sp?). Every other vid I've watched this evening has been the 4001...

*** Never mind - just read the OP again. That's a 4008???

Scott, the first time I saw Yes was in Indianapolis November '74. I was at the University Of Cincinnati at the time and my room mate and I hitch hiked in the snow to Indy to see them, with Gryphon as the opening band. My reward for doing so was getting to spend an hour or so with Chris and my friend discussing all things Yes, guitars and music in his hotel room after the show!

Is that bass white with black binding and pick guard?

To my ears it sounds like Rick Wakeman is doubling the bassline with a clavinet on some of the 70's live versions of Roundabout... after all, can you imagine Wakeman *not* wanting to embellish a part where's he's not needed? LOL
