Ok - who got the 4003FL JG in San Jose?
This is a case of "you snooze, you lose". My local guitar shop in San Jose, CA received a brand-spankin' new 4003FL in JetGlo. I saw it in the store on Monday, but I didn't have any time to play it, so I figured I'd come back and check it out on Tuesday. Tuesday became Wednesday and sure enough, it was gone. Hopefully someone on this forum snagged it - I did get to see it long enough to realize what a beautiful bass it is. And fretless ... grrr!

John, that bass was on order for some time and I gave serious thought about slapping down a deposit on it. Had it been MG, FG, BBR, or MB, it would have been mine. JG just isn't my cup of tea. (How I've changed since the 70s when I thought 'bursts looked cheap.)
Did he have it up on Gbase? That really increases competition for us locals. I think the 360BBR I had there on consignment (and advertised on Gbase) went to New Zealand! (Whoever receives it is getting one very beautiful guitar!)
Did you see the AFGs that came in and went in a flash? Very nice!

Jocelyn:
He did put it up on Gbase on Monday - by Weds it was gone. So the 360BBR was yours? That was a beauty.
I grabbed one of the AFGs - the 360/12. It's a great player - it rivals my 360/12 VP BlueBoy for playability. I also thought the 330 AFG was gorgeous.
Thanks for the info - and good to meet another Bay Area musician!

John,
Yes, that 360 was mine. I'm using those funds to pay for the 360/12BBR (another beauty) that arrived there last month.
Those AFGs were nice too. Glad you picked one up.
I love that store. In my almost 30 years of going there, I can't recall a single visit when I didn't see at least one Rickenbacker there (and that was because they had sold the others and were still waiting for more).
Hey, maybe we should meet up there sometime.
This shot is several years old, but it's still a great example of what I enjoy seeing in a music store. Too bad the amps were in the way.

That was awhile ago - the good old days when they had a wall of Ricks!
Actually I agree with you - they always have a wide assortment of vintage guitars, and the employees are very helpful and knowledgeable.
(For anyone else still reading this thread, we're talking about Guitar Showcase in San Jose, CA)
Yes - let's meet up there soon - maybe the next time they get a Rick shipment!

Very cool, John. Don't you just love it when someone backs out and you can move in?
That's how I got my 360BBR from there. I knew it was on order since NAMM and I waited, and waited, and waited before getting serious about it. Then wham! Someone else slapped down a deposit. So then I put one down on a 330 (I originally wanted a 620 but he didn't order one of those) and settled in for a wait. About two months later, the guy with the deposit on the 360 didn't want to wait any longer and pulled his money. I moved my money over to the 360 and it came in later that year.
So, enjoy your fretless! BTW, will you put flats on it?

Thanks everybody - sorry for the low res quality of the picture. It looks better on my web site (web.mac.com/desilva).
Jocelyn - yes I'm probably going to try some flats on it and check that out. I would think it would have a more "standup bass" sound, without sacrificing too much of the Rick 4003 growl ...
