To me, the remarkable thing is now I pretty much close my mind to a band BECAUSE they're on the top of the charts. With indy distributors and web radio, who needs to listen to bands that are promoted by finance people instead of those who actually can spot the best artists from the rest of the pack?

Marc... dead on. I loved listening to Helmet in the car with my 4- year old daughter asking to play it again.
As for the "industry"... to me the best in music lies outside of it. I'll agree that there's not a world of difference between jumping on the latest craze and creating cookie-cutter superstars as it happens today, than it did in the 50's, early 60's... after a while it creates a culture of sameness and something comes along to break the cycle. The Beatles were the pop band of forever before they switched gears and did things their way... I'm doubtful a band like Fallout Boy or someone like them has a "Revolver" or "Sgt. Pepper" in them, but that next Nirvana's bound to come along.

What do you mean the Bass is too loud???
Glenn, I think the more accurate way to put it is that it's a shame that the masses don't put more effort into seeking out fine music rather than listen to what's pushed on them . Hey, that's why payola is still popular
That's why I said it's usually the better musicians and true music lovers that go the extra mile to find stuff they enjoy.
