Cool Chris Squire video

Thats an outrageous bass...I want one!...any chance of making another?
Had couple of requests for copies of the QPR gig and as I said I got mine for free so its the same from my end. I may be a while due to my two week trip to Tuscany so bear with me...all that pasta and no Rick!
If any of you guys regularly contact eachother over in the States it might make sense to run copies for eachother if I send one.
As there doesnt seem to be any chance of this show getting an official release and the Rickenbacker value for us guys is high its probably the only way any of us will see that footage I suppose.
Still love that 4003 custom job.........
Any chance of photos/updates on the original?
Also...I wonder who bought Entwistles bass?

Dane! come over to Manchester with that bass!
A guy called Nick on another thread said he will sort the tickets out for cash and build ten potato headed 8 stringers too!.....Honest!
Seriously though that is such a low price to pay for Entwistles bass. When I think that I forked out £7000 for a second hand Volvo V70 estate I would sooner have that bass in the back of an old 240SE any day.
Has any one given the vintage mods treatment to a 4003/8? I suppose theres enough headstock to do a potato head out of one of those?

You can see very brief shots ( & I mean brief ) of the OX's 4008 on the WHO DVD "30 Years of Maximum R&B Live " it's been a while since I watched it but I think you can see it in the background while they are rehearsing in the studio "Sister Disco / Who Are You " & there's a quick glimpse of the back of the HS while John is saying to a tech the mixer or board is no good " because he can't plug in the 8 string " or something to that effect also you can hear a bit of the "Sister Disco" riff on it , as for the QPR YES Concert I have that on two Japanese DVDs I remember the sound mix stinks for the first few numbers & I heard it still does when it was released on DVD too bad it's otherwise great ,
Cheers,
BTW in a Johnny Cash vid that has film of the Petty & some of the Heartbreakers in the studio I swear you can see Tom Petty playing an Ric 8 string Bass,

O my god! Don't go down the potatohead road. it takes years to find your way back!
Would love to see some of those Photo's of Chris playing that one though.
Funny now that I look at this post after not being here for a while I see the repetitiveness of it all, People like John Hall and even Chris himself and so many others who have talked these events and instruments and lived these stories must just roll their eyes at conversations like this if they take the time to even see them. It's great fun for us bottom feeders but it has been thrashed out a hundred times by generation after generation of musicians already I am sure.
Not belittling anyone in this thread, not at all, beat this topic to death myself a few years ago, it is just humorous to see it again.
That bass may be the coolest and at the same time funniest looking bass John ever made. it sure has it's share of mystery and stardom.
And yes with some addded maple on the headstock and the correct shaping and finish you could build one of these for yourself from a 4003. I came close to doing it a few times, but I sold off the basses as other projects and the need for cash came up.
I will build one of these for myself someday though just for fun. It brings back that era for me as I remember Chris with this odd looking instrument and that stripped suit and so many notes.

That HB1 in the treble position gives it a real presence and foundation.
