I've always liked a lot of the Monkees songs.

Tommy Boyce & Bobby Hart knew how to write 'em.

I liked some of their later stuff like Listen to the Band along with a few of their earlier hits.
I thought the Monkee's theme was good, Hey, Hey, We're the Monkees, etc.

I rather liked Herman's Hermits "Mrs. Brown, you've got a lovely daughter." The opening guitar riff interested me. I think I remember seeing them on TV once, and the guitarist put a silk handkerchief underneath the strings, close to the bridge and then quickly reached over and yanked it free when he was done. Does that sound right? Or am I imagining things? (Geez, it was over 40 years ago)

Jim: Yep. I've seen the same video (possibly on 'Hullabaloo'?). I think I posted a nearly identical description in this Forum a few years ago. The guitar was either an RM1997 or RM1998. I've often wondered if this technique was only for live performances or whether it was also used in the studio.
