Janglebox: Your opinions?

Post by drumbob »

A lot of McGuinn/Rick 12/Byrds freaks say the Janglebox is the best compressor out there, and I'm definitely interested in getting one, but the price is high, and I'd like to try it out before I buy it.

I played the Boss Compressor/Sustainer today and liked it, and at $89, it's easier to swallow financially.

What do you guys think of the Janglebox? That compressed vibe is a big part of the sound I want from a 12-string.

If I just wanted a compressor, I'd probably buy a Keeley. I have too many budget stomp boxes that have been somewhat of a disappointment to spend any more money on them. But - if you want the McGuinn/Rick 12/Byrds sound The Janglebox does it really well right out of the package. I hardly ever use it for anything else, but it stays firmly attached to the cord hanging out of my twelve-string. My only complaint is that mine is kind of noisy on the bright setting, which is the one I usually use. I have never tried to duplicate that sound with other brands and other price ranges, so I can't comment on the feasibility of doing so, but I've never regretted the two hundred odd bucks that I spent on the Janglebox.

I have the Boss CS3 of which you speak, and a JangleBox. I thought the CS3 was adequate for years. When I got the jb, I wondered how I could have ever lived without it. The CS3 is decent, but the jb is waaaaay better.

Jason said it right. The J-box outclasses the CS3 where it counts, for the Byrd's stuff. BTW, I've got a clean rarely-used Boss CS3 for sale at a good price. Any takers? Mike

Well, be sure to tell us about the "unpacking experience", Glenn...

I got a Janglebox from my husband on Valentine's Day.... it sounds fantastic with my 360V64/12 through a clean AC30.... It is the PERFECT Ric jangle sound.

Type in Janglebox on the Rickenbacker Forum and see what posts.

I hope this thread doesn't go sideways.

Love my Janglebox. I probably would have given up on Rick 12's long ago if I hadn't taken the plunge and bought one.

Great for any guitar too, not just Ricks or Rick 12's.

+1 on the greatness of this pedal. I don't see a time in my future where I'll ever play without it.

They do! If you just want some normal compression or a treble boost, the JB does it well.

I love my Janglebox. I use it at home with my 370/12RM instead of the built in compressor. It sounds great through my Deluxe Reverb. I also love the way it sound with my strats, tele, 360/12, and now my 660. The CEO, Steve Lasko is a player, and a member of this forum as well. He has been very personable also, even responding to e-mails.

Yep, Steve is a great guy! He saw that I was praising the Janglebox on several different guitar forums and was nice enough to hook me up with some t-shirts!
