Favorite Out-of-Print Albums

Post by lyle_from_minneapolis »

There are some albums we all cherished once upon a time, but no one knows what we're talking about anymore because they are no longer available. There are several that qualify for me, but I will offer up John Mayall's best live album, Moving On, filled with great songs played with a full band and horn section. I haven't heard it for years and can't get it on CD, but the songs still resonate in my memory.

"Batdorf & Rodney" by John Batdorf and Mark Rodney--oops, I found out it has been re-released on CD. Still great twin acoustic guitars and 2 part harmony.

Yeah, but he said albums, yuk yuk yuk.
A lot of the early Canned Heat Albums are unavailable and are great. Also some of the Ten Years After albums.

I had to order Wings Over America from Amazon as an import. The one I got was made in Australia. It cost me $40.00! I guess it isn't out of print, but it isn't being sold new here in the states.

Jim, I just had email from John about that album! That and more of his works (more B & D, solo work, and with Michael Stanley) are out on his site, which has a really great history of B & R. Mark Rodney is now on the air in Las Vegas.

Oh man, that's a great Mayall album (I've got it on vinyl), but the one I really prefer is his "Jazz Blues Fusion" which came out a year or two prior. It's live too, and the songs are more intense (to me anyway). One of my all time fave albums - one of those that I memorized every note of every instrument in all the solos just from playing it a million times. ;-)

A few years ago I was browsing through a shop in Cleveland and spotted a CD version of "JBF" and bought it on the spot. Didn't even know that it'd made it to a CD version, and I don't know if it's still available that way now. But I'm glad I got it when I did - my record was worn out long ago.

That same day I also bought "Johnny Winter And... Live" and Edgar Winter's "Roadhouse" live albums too. Talk about a blast from the past! ;-)

Other discontinued stuff? I don't know... I'd kind of like to see a CD version of a Beatles LP I've got - "Oldies But Goodies" but I doubt that'll ever happen. There's many more too, just can't think of them now.

Johnny Winter Live is available on CD if it's the same one I'm thinking of, maybe 1973-74?

I don't get it. Why can't I post the picture? Strange. It's a thumbnail photo I did at jpegwizard.com.

Anyway, this is an old Christmas record I picked up at an estate sale. Woody The Woodchuck Christmas Album. Or something like that. Image

Nope. Sorry. When I first did jpegwizard, I found it easy. I must be doing something wrong.

Actually, all jokes aside, this is a great Xmas album that is out of print.
