Just bought a Markbass - the Walter Woods must go!

Post by 86kubicki »

I just picked up a Markbass LMK head. It's a terrific little two channel amp that works great with Ric-o-sound! As well it's light as a feather and pumps out 300 watts. As a result I must regrettably part with my Walter Woods M1 100-8 head. These are terrific little amps for small gigs. Details in "The Others".
Anyone else out there using a LMK with their Rickenbacker?

Not an LMK, but I bought a Markbass S450 a couple of years ago and am very pleased with it. Great amp at a great price. The EQ has a wide usable range which allows you to pull just about any Rick tone you like. I use it with a Bag End 15" alone for small gigs, adding an EA VL-210 for larger gigs.

That's what I'm looking to do Stu. I currently only have an Ampeg 1X12 cabinet, but would like to add an additional cabinet for larger gigs. The thing that sold me on Markbass heads (sound aside), is that they're so small and powerful that they can be used in a variety of situations.

They are indeed powerful and brimming with toneful goodness, Steve. Mine is one of the "heavy" ones (22 lbs) that I bought from a dealer who was clearing them out to make room for the new lighter weight line.

Assuming your Ampeg is 8 ohms, I think you'll hear a huge difference when you add a second 8 ohm cab, bringing the amp to a 4 ohm load and freeing up the full 500 watts. A nice portable 15 would go good with the Ampeg 12.

Enjoy the amp. Here's hoping it's as trouble-free for you as mine has been for me.

I've got a Little Mark II that I use with a Sansamp RBI and it really makes the pickups in a 4004 sound great, nice and clear. Humbuckers really seem to like the Markbass amps, if you go to the Ernie Ball forums you see that Sterling Ball is a big advocate for Markbass with Stingrays/Bongos.

I've got the CMD102P - absolutely fantastic - I've said it before in other threads, it is as if the thing was designed specifically for the Rickenbacker 4003!
Great tone, amazing power & so light (just 44lb)

i have the 1-12 combo also-i love it-it sounds better than anything i have ever played through-interesting to hear it compares favorably with the holy grail of bass amps!(ww)i dug out an old art phat-boy efx pedal that has a "drive" setting, and am getting a really quite nice tube-y sound with it,plus the effects have never sounded as good,i had sort of put it away for years,as it never sounded that great with my previous amps...i think a 2nd smaller markbass combo would be great to run efx/rickosound with-except both my ricks are mono. anyway, markbass rules!

I tried using a Sansamp with the Markbass last night, and it fills out the sound quite nicely. Mixing the two channels works very well with Ric-o-sound in this case, as I can send the Sansamp affected signal to one channel and set up the other channel with a solid bassy foundation tone.

I should add that as great as the Walter Woods amp is, (and I regret having to sell it), I really needed something with more power.

I've had no forum interest in the WW amp, so look for it on Ebay in the next few days.

That's too bad, I guess most forumites prefer big, heavy amps!

If I didn't already have my WW amp I would buy yours in an instant.

Is Steve's the same model as yours, Jeff?
