Fenderbird - finished!

Post by gearhed289 »

Well, mostly... I may get the body re-finished eventually. The body was a basket case when it was given to me by someone at the Dude Pit. After much waiting and ebay surfing, I've got it all together and it sounds really nice so far. Haven't used it with the band yet.... And I'm less than $700 into it.
body - modified Warmoth two piece mahogany
neck - Fender licensed Mighty Mite Jazz
pups - Gibson TB+
bridge - Schaller
tuners - Hipshot Ultra Light w/ D-tuner
pickguard and trim ring - Pickguardian

Don't know what it is about these, but for such klunkers they really appeal to me. Rath's is the nicest non-Rick bass I've seen...

They've got that surf vibe thing going, Paul.

Thanks Paul ... my Fender-bird 5 is a looker and a player ...

Image

it is very comfortable to play and I recently rewired it with 2 500k ohm volume pots and a 1000k ohm tone pot ... it has 2 15k ohm T-bird pickups ... it has a real nice snort and grunt ... it can also get the "Quadraphenia" sound as well ... this bass is getting a lot of playing time lately ... with the schaller bridge it has a very comfortable 2 1/2" spacing at the bridge and with the 4 string p-bass neck it is quite comfortable for my left hand ... this would be the perfect bass if I ever play in a Who tribute band ... I am thinking of painting it a vermillion red color ...

It would look cool this color ...

the bridge pickup is in the "Rickenbacker" position ... I run the bridge pickup and 10 and the neck pickup at 8-9 range ...

Looks fantastic natural Jeff ! I would love a bass like that with a pair of SD P-bass pups in it.
