I was wrong! LOL!

I installed the cap on my '04 4003. Then proceeded to talk out of my rear end about the virtues of the cap.
I've recently bought myself a pair of oldish Peavey parametric EQs. Still lacking the real tone I was after, even with my old parametric eq setup, I removed the cap and went back to stock. Using the EQs to boost some good frequencies on the bridge and neck pickup, I've noticed that the bridge pickup is really hot and sweet. Some mid range 'holes' have returned. I'm really happy with my tone now. I also used to use some valve overdrive on the bridge p-up. Now I've dispensed with the overdrive component. My bridge is clear and growly. It sounds like overdrive, but it's just pure bite.
A 2 channel compressor then tames some of those peaks when you play too hard. (Flailing wildly! HA ha ha).
In future I will keep my mouth shut, content in the knowledge that I was wrong......
What d'ya mean... the bass is TOO loud!

You wouldn't have known that if you hadn't tried! Image

it is not a matter of right or wrong ... but rather a matter of personal preference ...

I'll second Jeff on that. I couldn't imagine a Ric bass without the .0047 uF cap, but that is my preference after owning an '82 4001S since 1984 (new). I actually put 2 of them in series on my 1998 4003.
That said, I certainly realize that sound is a preference thing - and you only live once so do what you want.
