Badass II Bridge: filing sting grooves

Post by squirefan01 »

I bought a Leo Quan Badass II bridge for my P-Bass. It fits where the old bridge was fine, but I just realized that I (or a luthier) am supposed to file grooves into the bridge for the strings.

How hard can this be to do? I would think that getting the right size files would be important. Anybody have an idea of what sizes to buy? How about depth to file?

Thanks

I found a few things about this at TalkBass. Some say it's not necessary to file grooves at all, but I would think it would really help the tone to file them. I read about starting with a hacksaw to start the groove, then a triangular file followed by a round file, followed by 600 grit sandpaper to polish it off. As far as depth, it seems that the radius of the string will do.

Sound good? Too complicated?

Hacksaw? :0

I think I'd go with a file, or at the most extreme a dremel tool.

Those saddles are tough, it'l take some elbow grease
