Airway Lanes - new band from Oz

Post by rick_ovic »

There's a new band based in Melbourne called Airway Lanes. Greg Rahilly and I have seen them a number of times over the past six months and we think this guys might just be the Next Big Thing.

They are in the middle of recording their first full length album, following on from the success of their debut EP released last year.

I decided to help the band out by offering them the use of my vintage guitar collection during the recording sessions. I've been in the studio with them over the past few days.

They were able to pick from any of my Rickenbackers, a couple of Telecasters and a '63 Fender Strat. Their favourite guitar of course was my '60 335F, otherwise known as Fatboy. Hearing my baby cranked through a twin amp setup of a vintage 100 watt Marshall head and quadbox and a '60s Vox AC30 was fantastic. You should have seen the wide grins from the band and the sound engineers when the first chord rang out!

Fatboy will feature on at least three of the new songs. I'll update this post once the album is released in June/July.

It felt pretty good being able to help out such a talented group and I think they deserve to be very successful.

In the meantime, checkout their earlier material at www.myspace.com/airwaylanes.

PS - The band's name pays tribute to the Airway Lanes bowling center in Waterford, MI. This place became famous when an elderly bloke in his 90s bowled a perfect game. Unfortunately, immediately after achieving this exceptional score he keeled over and died!

Cool, Darren! Does that mean that Fatboy gets royalties? Image

Aitch, didn't know Waterford has an Airway Lanes. We have one here in the Zoo. In fact, I was surprised to read that last - having one here is what caught my eye. Small world.

That was a great gesture allowing them to use your stable of instruments. Kudos!

Just added them to my myspace, they sound pretty good. Once they get some Rick action in the new EP they will be flying!

I wanted to see them last weekend, they were playing with my favorite band 'Borne', but it was an over 18 gig !!!

These guys are definitely, as Darren stated, "the Next Big Thing". They are a really tight 4-piece band, with a fantastic songwriting talent! Looking forward to catching them next time they play a gig!

It now looks like that I'm gonna put my money where my mouth is with these guys.

Airway Lanes have invited me to consider becoming their manager and I'm very likely to say "yes". It will give me an opportunity to combine what I've learned during 25 years of performing and playing in bands myself, with the management and business experience of 25 years working in the corporate world.

I guess it will be a bit like Reuben Kincaid was to the Partridge Family. I hope I get to wear a retro chocolate brown suit. Hang on. I wear one of those already!

Anyway...the new album is due for release in the next few weeks. After that we'll plan the world domination tour. Image

Just a thought.

Now that's cool, Shane Image

"Hot 2 Trott Management" would appeal to the younger generation, too.

Out of curiosity, I just looked to see if "Hot To Trott" was registered as a web domain.

I couldn't believe my eyes! Type in www dot hottotrott dot com and you'll see what I mean. For adult eyes only.

Darren, it's an old saying...........and I knew exactly what it meant !!!!!!!!!

Still, it sounds cool, and I love a good pun !!!!!

Is it a registered business name here ? I think you can access the ASIC website to confirm.
