They are in the middle of recording their first full length album, following on from the success of their debut EP released last year.
I decided to help the band out by offering them the use of my vintage guitar collection during the recording sessions. I've been in the studio with them over the past few days.
They were able to pick from any of my Rickenbackers, a couple of Telecasters and a '63 Fender Strat. Their favourite guitar of course was my '60 335F, otherwise known as Fatboy. Hearing my baby cranked through a twin amp setup of a vintage 100 watt Marshall head and quadbox and a '60s Vox AC30 was fantastic. You should have seen the wide grins from the band and the sound engineers when the first chord rang out!
Fatboy will feature on at least three of the new songs. I'll update this post once the album is released in June/July.
It felt pretty good being able to help out such a talented group and I think they deserve to be very successful.
In the meantime, checkout their earlier material at www.myspace.com/airwaylanes.
PS - The band's name pays tribute to the Airway Lanes bowling center in Waterford, MI. This place became famous when an elderly bloke in his 90s bowled a perfect game. Unfortunately, immediately after achieving this exceptional score he keeled over and died!
