We couldn't agree on anything for our band. We needed something to put on our first gigs poster though. A few weeks before the big event, we played a couple of parties. Throughout these warm ups and our weekly practices, our other guitar player kept coming up with excuses for not learning material, "The room fan was disturbing me", "my amp isn't right", "I have another bad patch cord" (the bad patch cord was used every time we got together). Sooo:

Bad Patch stuck and has been with us longer than the guitarist was.

Well, both bands i was in (not counting a short-lived "over-the-web" project) had the names better not spoken in high society... the 1st one's name was the word which (in Russian) is used to describe both the fact of getting rid of the troubles and the result of diarrhoea... the 2nd one's name referred to a kitten that was in a huge trouble but in words which are not appropriate for this forum.

Mark Gloster and Big Rubber Shark was named after this scene:

In a way, it is comforting to know that my band couldn't defeat Batman by themselves. Maybe that keeps egos in check. If they really needed to get the guy in tights, they'd need me to help.

We stumbled upon our name by accident. We were in a pinch for a name when one of our wives said, "You can practice whenever you want. Just be home by 11." So Home by 11 stuck.

Err, no. More like, "Pussy's [certain kind of] fiasco".

My bands name, Skaface, was suggested by our singer's father, a man of many groaners. I hated it from the beginning, but it stuck.
Previous band names: Post Mortem (high school punk band, the name was suggested by a members father who was a doctor)
The Trouser Mice (no idea, our bass player came up with it & I thought it was funny)
Dionysian Smile (I joined this band when it was already named, so I don't know the story). D-Smile's last CD was Worse Comes to Worse, a mishearing of the frequently used phrase 'if worst comes to worse' while planning our cross-Canada tour.

One of my bands was called Elegant Mess. It was Bugs Bunny's moniker in a takeoff on Elliot Ness. And the name was very appropriate, except for the elegant part.

several of those explanations of the origin of the band names are not true but are in fact urban legends ... case and point the Alice Cooper ouija board story ...

Greg, ska bands are supposed to have horrible pun names. I once played in the Skacasians.

How 'bout "Case and Point", a mishearing of "case in point"?

I always thought that "TBA" would be a great band name. Just get a music festival program sometime, and look at all the announcements that band gets!

Those ska names really take me back. A couple local ones were Ska Humbug, and Phil Skallins.
