Tremelo on a 620

Post by rickenvon »

Im thinking about putting a tremelo on my rickenbacker 620 that way I dont have to buy a new guitar just to have a tremelo. Is there a tremelo out there that doesnt have to be drilled in or involves little drilling. I was thinking maybe a bigsby.

The Rickenbacker Accent will work and is a reversible mod, meaning you won't have to do anything but put it on.

Your best bet would be the Accent vibrato from RIC. That keeps it original equipment, and the main mounting point is the strap button on the end of the guitar. The Bigsby B5 requires four holes to be drilled into the body face of the guitar, after making sure it is lined up properly. Even then, they are difficult to fit onto a Rick.

Tremelo is amplitude modulation.

Vibrato is frequency modulation.

Vibrato is what you want, and an Accent is perfect for this guitar, and a ten-minute installation plus restringing.

Either RIC itself, or an authorized Rick dealer.

Try Pick of the Ricks, Rhoads Music, or North Coast Music.

They turn up on Ebay now and then, and I've bought a couple from fellow Forum members, too.

I will definetly look into the accent. But wouldnt the Bigsby B3 be installed the same way as the accent?

A Bigsby B3 will require four drilled holes. An Accent requires one.

An Accent will usually mount onto the strap peg, requiring no holes to be drilled. On some older Ricks with a different strap peg location, you will have to redrill the hole and remount the peg. But a newer guitar should not need this done, making this mod 100% reversible with a minimum of tools (none) and work required.
