The folly of finding an old Fender.
Congrats John, it looks great, like a 70's P should look!
I love the white/black look on a P. Tort on Oly is more common now on 60's reissues, I'd keep the b/w/b pickguard, it's more period-correct. And a B neck (1 5/8" at the nut) is also correct for a 70's P bass. C necks (1 3/4" @ the nut) are on 60's P's.
The pickup cover is a nice touch, so is the tug bar. The headstock decal font is pre-76, so you could choose to install either a G side tug bar (pre-73) or an E side thumb rest (post-74).

Sean: The gig was an uphill battle, as I expected it to be. I'm just not used to playing it. But man, this thing sounds great. It was kind of nice having just 1 tone, 1 volume, no pickups to choose from. I just did tweaking on my amp if I had to.
Thanks Ilan - didn't know 70's Precisions had B necks. This one is very comfy. I may add on the E side thumb rest eventually. Did any Fenders actually have both the tug bar and the thumb rest?

John, First off congratulations on the gig.
I've seen a few P's with both tug bar and rest but would guess that the second was fitted after purchase.
That said why would anyone want a bar on both sides? I use the G side tugbar on my P when we really take things down or on a live fade out. Not sure I would ever use a bar on the E side.

P's and J's had only one, but Coronado basses had both.

Some 60's P basses had A necks, I saw and played one, was a 65 and all original. The "classic" early 60's P bass had a C neck but other widths were also around. Later 70's P basses got very wide sometime after they eliminated the letter system. I actually don't know if you could get other than a B neck for an early 70's P bass but suspect you could. I think my 71 was a C.
There's a thread on this model/color over at the FDP:
