Fender bassman amp question

Marshall used to make a 4 x 12 bass cab, looked just like a regular guitar cab except it said bass in one of the upper corners on the grille in small letters. I've never seen one in this country, they sounded pretty good, very round sound.

Back in the 70s I used a Fender Bassman 100 with the parabolic 4x12 when I owned Wints 1963 RM.
It was THE Rick sound!

I actually saw (with a saw) one of those 4x12" to pieces because I couldnt house it anymore. I kept the Bassman 100 amp though. Sold it very recently. Still have a '63er bassman (_with_ speaker cab) which is going to be restored someday.

well the fender silverface bassman 50 sounded great saturday night. i used my 4003 ric and an 8 ohm 1-15 home made enclosure. i got lots of compliments.

I picked up a 1968 bassman 50 silverface with the 2x15 cab this weekend. I wanted a tube amp to play with. It needs retubing. It is the AB165 model. Anyone have any tips regarding buying tubes, and any places that do rehab work if the caps etc. need work? I will run this thru my avatar 12 when I gig out, as the 2x15 cab weighs probably 80-100 lbs.

There are a lot of good tube dealers around including http://www.tubesandmore.com, http://www.eurotubes.com, etc. A pair of Winged C 6L6GC's, Tung-Sol 6L6GC's, or JJ 6L6GC's would sound really nice in there. I'm a dealer too and can get many of the popular tube types. I also do amp repair, and there are others around (depending on where you live) who do it too. If you are interested, then send me a PM. With shipping costs, it is cheaper to do the repairs locally if you can find a good tech.

For preamp tubes, JJ and Tung-Sol reissue are good.

My current rig is the 70's bassman 100 + 4x12 cab, +V63. Great tone, little low on power for some of the larger stages though, but in that case i'll usually get some bass put through the monitors.
Those folks in Melbourne can check us out this weekend at the Cornish Arms on saturday night and the The Retreat on sunday night....sorry for the shameless self promo....

IIRC the BF had a different biasing circuit and diff caps in the tonal circuits. The conversion was fairly easy and Webber or Torres had a schematic that showed 'dem changes.

Its been a while since I've messed around with amp, watch out for high voltage!

In fact, wasn't Marshall "born" as a bass amp? ... Basically a copy of the late 50s 4x10 tweed Fender Bassman... 50ish watts and separate 4x12 cabinet...
