350v63 changes

Post by rumbush »

I'm not the only 350v63 fan around here, so I thought I'd share these observations in case other folks haven't seen them yet...

These pics are from www.williesguitars.com, it's a 2007 350v63 AFG.

New headstock shape and neck on this model. Neat!

Previously these necks were all maple.

Careful there Howard, you may be promulgating "illegal activity" if you're thinking of buying it there and bring it with you to Australia.

Heck, you may even be advocating "illegal activity", and that's somebody elses opinion not mine of course, because as they put it, I "know little about the law". Image

Whatever "law" that is. I think they had a law like that somewhere behind the old iron curtain, that being one reason they put the wall up.

But you never know these days, there's "walls" going up everywhere. Image

Me too Howard....brilliant minds think alike !!!!

Manuel, Australia and the USA have a Free Trade Agreement, and we should all do our best to use it....especially where Rics are concerned !!!!

Howard, can you get one for me .......please!!!!
Those are my principles, and if you don't like them... well, I have others.

Yes Shane, I've know that from day one. Our businesses here get updates from the Federal Government quite often as one of my businesses deals with overseas customers.

I think many people don't know it, but it can be read about here.

But I think that when they (someone from Rickenbacker) contacted me, they were referring to the laws that refer to the importation of the goods proper. But, you know, things may have changed since then.

Heck, it's nice to enjoy new Rickenbackers (as I do), if you can get one "legally" without having to wait 5 years, as apparently some people are saying they have been quoted.Image

Yep, that looks like a nice looking 350 with that skunk stripe!

There's nothing to stop me walking into a guitar shop in the US, buying a Rick and taking it home with me.... AFAIK it doesn't go against the dealership agreement because that only limits where you can sell them, not to whom. Who's to say I'm not an Australian living in the US? I certainly wouldn't ask a dealer to break the agreement. As an alternative you could have a US resident buy it (and pay for it with his/her money) and you would reimburse them for the cost and shipping charges.

The only 'illegal activity' that I can think of would be having the dealer understate the value of the item on the sales document to avoid duty and tax.... and duty isn't an issue any more for US made goods. If I had to pay 10% tax then so be it..... better that than US$350 odd for flamin' freight!! Image

Totally agree, Mark....... let me mull it over for a bit. If I miss out, well that's just stiff cheddar, eh? Image

If you happen to be in the area and it's not inconvenient, Mark, I'd love to know what you think of it.

I was in Minneapolis twice last September but didn't get beyond the smoking area outside the airport doors!!

I'm in the USA as well Howard. I can get it shipped to me in California then fly it back to the UK and then bring it out to Australia next year. I could be breaking the law on three continents then Image

Seriously though - I'm here if you need me.

I appreciate the offer very much, Graham. I have a couple of new issues that I have to come to grips with here before I can jump in on new gear and I reckon that AFG will have a short shelf life anyway, so I'll more than likely miss out. Image

It's not the end of the world by any means...... one may pop up at some stage in the future and I will also be looking for an MG 350v63, so when I'm sorted I'll have two to hunt down! Image

I'm glad you guys are laughing it up too, because I thought I was the only guy doing that sort of "illegal activity"! Image

I laughed so hard when I got those emails I nearly fell off my chair ... but then I got to thinking, is this for real or is this guy pulling my leg?

I don't know, I kept looking, but my legs are still the same length ...

I don't suppose you received these emails very early in April, Manuel...... as in the 1st!!

Have you still got them, BTW? Could be worth framing and putting up on ebay........ Image
