Why the Pickup Cover?

No, he was playing his RM1999 for sure. The pickguard was reshaped and it has the holes for the finger rest. Bsesides, the 4001CS was sitting in the guitar stand near his amp off stage. You can also see wear on the chrome, not in these photos but in person I could see it given that I was only about four feet away from the bass, same as the wear you see on it in the Yesspeak DVD.
I had questioned whether the pickup had been replaced, maybe a year ago here on the forum, the answer is that it is the original pickup.
At the 75th, I was there with Chris and Kenny when he asked about getting some more horseshoes, but I don't think he was specific as to whether they were to be RI shoes or perhaps real magnetic shoes.
Kenny???

Here is another pic of the RM1999:
Note the shape of the HS surround as not being like that of any of the different 4001CS surrounds but that of the RM1999, also the reshaped PG near the neck above the toaster.
And of course, not a hint of tail lift, this of course being the old solid casting three screw tailpiece.

Does Squire always play without a pick? Can't imagine "Heart of the Sunrise" with fingers!

Definitely took mine off, soon after acquiring it. I love the look, I just can't play around it.

I guess my playing's evolving.
I'd put it on many times in the past, but could only manage to last a week before the cover would drive me nuts.
I've got three weeks into it now & I'm getting used to it.
It does seem to cancel some hum, I haven't had our singer turn around & say: "BZZZZZZZZZ" when I plugged in recently!

Plus five minus five!

I could never play with them, always take them off, even took the shoes off my 2 V63's before I sold them, those were a little noisier and less full sounding after though.
I even pluck right over the pickup a lot of the time, it seems to be the perfect place, the strings are not too loose, not too tight.
I always took them off my Fenders too. Both of them.

After a long time off I recently put mine on and lasted about 10 days this time. Just kept getting in the way although I really like it when I use a pick. Most of the time I'm finger player so again it came back off. Every time I put it on it forces me to explore other playing positions which is very cool though. Right now I'm really enjoying playing over the the toaster with the vintage control pulled out. Very cool retro sound!
