John,

Your daughter obviously has good taste! Image

"Interesting over the years how many groups I gravitated to I later found out used a 4001."

Same here, EXACTLY the same for me! Even when I SUSPECTED a RIC, I was right about 90% of the time. Oh, to have young ears again! Image

Oh a turntable, I remember them! I have one that hasn't been plugged in for about 5 years. I still have a fair number of LP's, but nothing like I once did. As I replaced them with CD's, most of them were sold. I kept ALL of my Prog stuff though!

The only time a bass player gets noticed is when he stops playing.

I'm up in Wisconsin cleaning out my aunt's house before the estate puts it on the market. Among the things that I packed up today was three boxes of records. Most were 78s dating from the 30s and 40s. Some were even just pressed on one side.

Thanks for the reminder, Richard! When we cleaned out my parents stuff I found the 33 rpm disk my mom sang when she was about 8 years old. I gotta dig out the ole turntable to get that digitized and share it with my sibs. Thanks!

Recycled is a fine album with a fine 4001 tone.
Right now on my turntable I have a long-player, Lord Protect Me From My Friends, by this obscure but interesting American group called Rockville Junction (1974). Anyone ever heard of them?
A Rickenbacker bass is much like the Jaguar E car - perennially ultra-fashionable.

Not me, Sergio. I looked them up and they are pretty obscure, although that album had two hits. Paul Gilman is now an Emmy winner who does TV and film scores.
Here is where I hide my music:

I've never heard of them either but there's the same LP (brand new) in Amazon.com that you have for 20.00

Motorhead - some BBC sessions thing
Black Flag - Who's Got the 10 & 1/2?

Sorta reminds me of the similar thread over at jacopastorius.com forum. Check out how HUGE that thread became. It's over 200 pages of discussions.

Steve - It's interesting that you have TPOH! I never knew they made much headway in the states.
Right now I'm listening to Fountains Of Wayne's "Traffic and Weather" at work, with Rush's "Snakes and Arrows" in the car. I also just received The Bears' "Eureka" in the mail (the post office sticker was signed by Adrian Belew himself - how cool is that!). I haven't had a chance to listen to it yet, but it should be good!

I've been in a retro mood for the past number of weeks.....prolly trying to rediscover my lost youth. A small sampling of my play list, which will prolly turn a 180 in a week and a half....as usual:

Elvis Costello & The Attractions - Armed Forces

Elvis Costello & The Attractions - This Year's Model

Pretenders - Pretenders

The Beatles - Sgt. Pepper

James Brown's Funky People - Pt. 1 & Pt. 2
Wherever you go, there you are
